Inside NuStep: EvolutionIt all began in the 1960's when President, Dick Sarns, an engineer by trade, worked with cardiac surgeons to develop what is today's most noted heart-lung machine - the machine used in the first human heart transplant in Cape Town, South Africa in 1967. In the years that followed, and after observing the alarming rate of open heart surgery in America, Sarns became a believer that lifestyle played a role in cardiac disease. With this challenge in mind, Dick and his wife, Norma, sold their medical products firm to the 3M Company and, in 1987, founded NuStep, Inc. of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Some might say that the couple followed their hearts in this new endeavor. But, in truth, they were following the hearts of more than 500,000 people in the United States who were undergoing open heart surgery at the time. After years of research and development - and many prototypes - NuStep, Inc. officially launched the NuStep® TRS 3000. Later, teaming with exercise physiologists, ergonomic specialists, and health experts, NuStep, Inc. continued to modify the TRS 3000, resulting in the 1999 launch of the patented NuStep® TRS 4000 Recumbent Cross Trainer. Today, thousands of NuStep users around the world, including professionals at physical therapy centers, cardiac rehabilitation clinics, and health and wellness centers rely on NuStep’s ergonomic, innovative, safe, low-impact exercise equipment to help achieve the important balance of physical fitness and wellness in the lives of individuals regardless of age or personal ability.
