NUSTEP SPONSORS THE MEDICAL FITNESS ASSOCIATION, CHALLENGING AMERICANS TO WALK 70,000 STEPS
March 6, 2007

"NuStep's support of the National Walking Challenge helps the Medical Fitness Association elevate the significance of wellness and exercise to both individuals and communities," said Cary Wing, EdD, Medical Fitness Association executive director.  "The National Walking Challenge will benefit the participants by increasing their energy, decreasing their stress, provide better weight management and decrease their chances of heart disease."

With 64 percent of Americans overweight and 30 percent characterized as obese, the MFA is sponsoring the Steppin' Out National Walking Challenge to promote the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits in combating obesity and related health issues.

During the Medical Fitness Week participating medical fitness facilities and communities will offer programming that provides tips on developing healthier lifestyle habits. In addition, the participating facilities will raise money through the walking challenge, "70,000 Steps in 7 Days." Proceeds from the challenge will be donated to local programs and fund scholarships that provide health and wellness programming.

"NuStep shares the goals of the National Walking Challenge not only in promoting health and wellness, but in understanding the values of physical activity," said Steve Sarns, NuStep vice president of sales and marketing. "Supporting this program contributes to Nustep's mission to transform lives by urging people to become active and conquer obesity and life-threatening illnesses."

NuStep and the MFA offer the following tips aimed at increasing steps taken everyday to increase overall fitness:
 Walk, bicycle or jog to work, school or the store.
 Park the car farther away from your destination and walk the remaining distance.
 Get on or off the bus several blocks away from your des.
 Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.
 Take fitness breaks while at work – take short walks or do exercises at your desk – instead of taking cigarette or coffee breaks.
 Work in the garden or do home repairs.
 Stretch and exercise while watching TV.
 Dance to music.

For those with disabilities who would like to participate in the Steppin' Out Walking Challenge but are unable to walk long distances or for long periods of time, there are   medical fitness centers and community recreation centers across the U.S. equipped with NuStep's TRS 4000 recumbent cross trainers. The TRS 4000 simulates a natural walking motion while eliminating undesirable joint stress. The TRS 4000 has a built in pedometer that counts the number of steps taken and allows the user to track their progress and participate in the walking challenge.

The community who achieves the most steps in the seven days will receive national recognition. For more information or to register for the National Walking Challenge, please visit www.medicalfitness.org.
