Press: NuStep Raising Funds for American Heart Association Heart Walk
September 15, 2006
ANN ARBOR, MI - This year, in an effort to encourage company-wide participation, each NuStep employee is being asked to raise $300 and participate in the Heart Walk on September 30 at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor.
Supporting heart health is nothing new to Ann Arbor-based NuStep, Inc., maker of the NuStep TRS 4000 Recumbent Cross Trainer. Since its inception, NuStep has actively supported the efforts of the American Heart Association. And this year, in an effort to encourage company-wide participation, each NuStep employee is being asked to raise $300 and participate in the Heart Walk on September 30 at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor.
“NuStep has a long history of partnership with the American Heart Association, including past Heart Walk events and its annual Heart Gala, but this is the first year the company is asking every employee to join in support of the cause,” said Steve Sarns, NuStep vice president of sales and marketing. “NuStep has long been recognized as a critical tool in promoting heart health, especially amongst those who are going through rehabilitation following a cardiac event. NuStep and the American Heart Association share a common goal of supporting heart health and active living.”
The Heart Walk takes place throughout the country at approximately 500 locations. This year, the American Heart Association has set a goal of recruiting 1,500 participants, nationwide, to the Heart Walk and raising more than $200,000.
In a novel approach to team building and fundraising, NuStep is pitting its sales and operations teams against its manufacturing team in a contest to raise the most funds. Sarns, and Mike Steiner, manufacturing manager, are serving as captains of their respective fundraising teams. Either Steiner or Sarns will be taking a bath in the pond behind NuStep’s headquarters following the Heart Walk: The captain whose team raises the least amount of money will be dunked, fully clothed.
Heart Walk benefits the American Heart Association’s research and education programs. Currently, the American Heart Association is investing more than $133 million in valuable biomedical research at institutions throughout the United States. All revenue generated from this event fights cardiovascular diseases and stroke
Heart Walk participants can choose between a 1.5 and 3 mile course. The Heart Walk will begin with opening ceremonies at 9 a.m., rain or shine.
