Press: NBC's Hit Show "The Biggest Loser" Uses NuStep T5XR for a Second Season
21 Contestants Transforming Their Lives with Diet and Exercise
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Nov. 24, 2010 - Contestants on the 10th season of the popular show "The Biggest Loser," which airs Tuesday evenings at 8/7c on NBC, are working out on the NuStep T5XR Recumbent Cross Trainer in their competition to lose the most weight and earn a $250,000 grand prize.
NuStep debuted on "The Biggest Loser" during Season 9, when several of their heaviest contestants were unable to use traditional exercise equipment, prompting producers of the show to approach NuStep about giving the show a number of T5XR Recumbent Cross Trainers for these contestants.
One of the contestants who used the T5XR was O'Neal Hampton Jr., a U.S. Postal Service employee from Minneapolis, MN. Hampton's weight - 389 pounds at the show's onset - coupled with bad knees, made him a candidate for the T5XR. The NuStep's ergonomic, low-impact features were easy on Hampton's knees yet still provided a full-body workout. Hampton, who lost 159 pounds, is now a paid NuStep spokesperson. He says, "The NuStep single-handedly kept me on the (Biggest Loser) ranch."
Andrea Hough, another Season 9 contestant, called the T5XR "our saving grace." Because of the NuStep's versatility, Hough said it was the, "go-to, non-impact, exercise machine" for those with physical issues as well as a "great alternative, high-cardio exercise machine for a friendly workout competition, which we would do often." Ms. Hough is currently teaching a boot camp exercise class for NuStep employees utilizing the programs used by contestants on the show.
The NuStep T5XR has also proven popular at Biggest Loser Resort at Fitness Ridge facilities in Malibu, CA and Ivins, UT. NuStep provided the recumbent cross trainers used at the Malibu resort at no cost. The Ivins resort purchased a T5XR for their location. Selected to be the exclusive weight loss destination to NBC's television show "The Biggest Loser," the resort offers a boot camp style program for men and women of any fitness level.
The T5XR, which earned the 2009 Gold Medical Design Excellence Award for rehabilitative and assisted technology products, provides safe, adaptive and effective exercise for users of virtually all function levels. With a 600-pound capacity, a low step-through design, and an optional oversized seat, the T5XR is ideal for larger, heavier users.
"NuStep is proud to partner with the Biggest Loser and provide contestants with safe, low impact, and total body exercise while they're on the ranch," says NuStep Consumer Marketing Manager, Dan Brady. "We've heard from users around the country that the NuStep is incredible throughout their weight loss journey, and that it's particularly useful for them in the early stages of their weight loss when other forms of exercise can be difficult," says Mr. Brady.
