"NuStep immediately came to mind for our residents."
Deb Gee, MA, PTA I was introduced to the NuStep by Steve Sarns himself at an American College of Sports Medicine annual conference in1993. The NuStep’s unique qualities caught my attention. I have a Masters degree in Exercise Science and have worked in some aspect of healthcare or the fitness industry for 27 years. In 2001, I was hired by Holiday Retirement Corp. to be its first Fitness Facilitator. Holiday is the largest management company of independent-living retirement homes, approaching 300 facilities throughout the U.S. and Canada. The average age of our 34,000 residents is 83. The research on aging has shown that no matter their age, a person can benefit from exercise. As the fitness educator of our facility staff, my ultimate task is to encourage our residents to be as physically active as possible. Exercise is essential to their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As I reviewed the exercise equipment that was in our facilities, the NuStep immediately came to mind as the ideal piece for our residents. Treadmills have a fall risk, many stationary bicycles are difficult to get onto and are uncomfortable. Most of the exercise equipment on the market is geared to a younger person with multiple programming options and a confusing display panel. I have looked into the other recumbent steppers and the NuStep remains our first exercise equipment choice. |
