Twelve NuStep® TRS4000 Recumbent Cross Trainers Benefit Patients at Yavapai Regional Medical Center

Twelve NuStep Cross TrainersA range of patients, rehabilitation and wellness users at three innovative Prescott, AZ facilities of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center are reaping great benefits from the use of a dozen NuStep TRS4000 Recumbent Cross Trainers.

Use of the NuStep at the two wellness centers and the cardiac rehabilitation gym “does wonders for patients both physically and psychologically because they participate in an exercise program and help themselves get well,” explains Carl Cohan, director of preventive medicine, diabetes education, adult fitness and cardiac care.

Located two hours north of Phoenix, the Yavapai Center has comprehensive educational program for its patients.  These include weekly seminars on a range of wellness topics as well as a diabetes self-management program for outpatients.  A medical nutritional program, certified diabetes education for obesity and diabetes and a highly successful osteoporosis seminar are also offered on a regular basis.

“The big differentiator of our Wellness Center is that everything is medically-supervised by dieticians, exercise physiologists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and nurses,” says Cohan.  “Our primary group of patients is in the 60-and-up range, but we work with rehab patients of all ages.  People who have been injured in accidents or suffered a stroke with significant residual effects have benefited the most.”

According to Cohan, the key component of exercise at the three facilities is use of the NuStep.  “It is dynamite equipment – safe, easy to use and anyone can use it,” says Cohan.  He notes that it is especially good for post-stroke and people who have suffered catastrophic illness and cannot walk but can use a NuStep for a total body workout.
