NuStep Helps 86-year-old Maintain Active Lifestyle

Determined to maintain her active lifestyle after a downhill skiing accident, Eleanor Petty utilized NuStep TRS 4000 as a part of her rehabilitation.

Eleanor Petty, 86, has always lived an active life. An avid skier throughout her life, Petty has traveled the globe, raised a family and lived life to its fullest.

At age 80, Petty’s active lifestyle was threatened after a downhill skiing accident. The accident worsened the arthritis in her knees. Eventually undergoing knee replacement surgery, Petty faced a difficult rehabilitation process that offered no guarantees that she would be able to return to the activities she enjoyed, including travel and skiing.

Petty used the NuStep TRS 4000 Recumbent Cross Trainer as a part of her rehabilitation at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, an M-Fit exercise facility. NuStep’s unique design enabled Petty to move her arms and legs together in a fluid motion, simulating walking with the added benefit of resistance training. Even more importantly, NuStep delivers low-impact training, preventing stress on joints, including hips, knees and shoulders.

“NuStep is very simple to use and easy to adjust tension and seat position,” said Petty. “The stepping motion allowed me to get a great workout and regain the strength in my legs without putting any stress on my knees.”

Petty in EgyptSince completing rehabilitation with the NuStep TRS 4000, Petty has resumed her active lifestyle. She recently enjoyed a trip to Egypt with her daughter where they rode camels in the desert. Petty has also recently traveled to Thailand and other exotic locales that would not be possible without Petty’s renewed physical mobility.

“I’m independent and it’s important for me to be able to do the things I enjoy,” said Petty. “I travel, play golf, enjoy gardening, volunteer at local non-profits, and love to spend time with my children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. My active lifestyle wouldn’t be possible without regular exercise; NuStep has transformed my life”
