Essential Equipment: The NuStep TRS 4000 Recumbent Cross Trainer Helps Nearly All Patients
Space is an issue at our busy 7,600 square-foot facility that combines physical and occupational therapy and rehabilitation services in combination with a fitness center.
We make efficient use
of the space and choose our equipment carefully. When we opened five
years ago, I purchased two NuStep recumbent cross trainers. Right away
I knew we would need more. Patients and members had to wait for an
opportunity to use it. So we ordered more. Now we have seven NuSteps
in our outpatient center, and two in our inpatient center.
Versatile
I am sold on the NuStep. In our rehabilitation center, we serve
nearly 45 patients every day. They are referred to us for rehab services
for a variety of reasons, including post-surgery, cardiac and work
reconditioning, orthopedic rehabilitation, neck and back pain, post falls
and fractures, hypertension, neuromuscular disease and CVA's. The NuStep
TRS 4000 is one piece of equipment that is safe for nearly everyone.
Independent Work Outs
Because the NuStep is so safe, patients can work
out with a minimum of supervision. This allows our staff to help other
patients in activities and exercises that require one-on-one assistance,
increasing staff efficiency.
Customized Work Out that is Safe and Comfortable
Most of our patients
and members warm up on the NuStep. We customize the workload by adjusting
the tension settings. Our patients work at a level that is appropriate
for them, simultaneously warming their muscles, getting cardiovascular
exercise and strengthening the muscles in the upper and lower body.
Offers Wide Range of Motion
The arm rests surround the patient and make
them feel secure. The arms and seat adjust to allow for the desired
range of motion.
Fitting In
The NuStep TRS 4000 is quiet, compact, requires no electricity,
and has wheels that make it easy to move. It accommodates people of
all heights, and weights up to 400 pounds. It is designed to be maintenance
free.
Monitor Makes it Easy to Track Progress
The LCD monitor displays steps-per-minute, METS, calories burned and heart
rate in easy-to-read type.
Affordability
Generally, physical therapy and rehabilitation clinics
carefully watch their costs. The NuStep is an excellent value because
it can effectively be used by nearly all patients, and it pays for
itself within a few months with normal use. It is well made and requires
little maintenance.
Making a Difference in People's Lives
We have an 83-year-old patient
who is blind and at a very high risk for falling. Because of her fear
of falling and resultant inactivity, she has developed significant
weakness and a subsequent decline in functional activity. The NuStep
enabled us to safely begin increasing her stamina and conditioning. She
has gained the strength and confidence to progress to the next level
in her rehabilitation. She is just one example of the hundreds of special
people who can benefit from the NuStep TRS 4000.
