Seeing The Forest For The Trees

Healthy Living – Not Just Weight Loss.

For those of us on a weight loss journey, it can be tough to think about anything but losing weight. We think it’s the sole purpose of our journey.

So, yes, we focus on losing weight. But what if in that focus we get so caught up in the details of losing weight that we fail to see the bigger picture…our life? In other words, we can’t see the forest for the trees.

The “Someday” Trap.

I fell into that trap and focused more on losing weight than on my life. I believed that someday, once I’d lost that weight, my new, improved “real” life would begin. What I discovered is that by putting all my eggs in the “someday” basket, I wasn’t experiencing all the pieces of my life.

Now, you might think I’m contradicting myself because I’ve written so much about the dedication, desire and determination needed to lose weight. However, just like everything else in life, if we focus too much on one thing, we miss out on other things. It’s all about balancing your mindset.

Seeing The Bigger Picture – Healthy Living.

Once I adjusted my mindset, the difference was like night and day. I’m actually enjoying the journey this time around and here’s why. Instead of focusing solely on weight loss, I’ve expanded my view. There’s a bigger picture and it’s about being healthy in mind, body and spirit.

Finally understanding this has given me a keen sense of purpose. I guess you could say that I now have a road map for my journey. I know where I’m going, where I want to be, and how I’m getting there.

Here’s the important thing – I’m also focusing on the present and enjoying the ride, because I don’t want to miss a thing.

Thanks all, you got this.

This Week’s O’Nealism:
If you’re struggling on your journey, don’t look to the past, and stay out of the future. Look at the present, the here and now. That’s where you’ll see what you need to change or do differently to keep you out of the past and launch you into the future.
